Kenneth Newman, 66, of Stafford County, passed away Friday, January 30, 2015 at Mary Washington Hospital.He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 45 years, Lynne; two sons Michael Newman and wife Tracy of King George and Jason Newman of Fredericksburg; three greatly loved grandchildren Lily, Tate, and Henry Newman; one sister Gwen Wood and husband Rick of Fredericksburg; brother Tim Newman and wife Teresa of Bedford; and numerous nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Jean Newman and sister, Linda Huppmann.Ken proudly served in the Air Force from 1969 to 1972. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam as a crew chief on C-1 30's. Upon returning to the states, he attended school in Pittsburgh.He worked for over 30 years at Purvis Ford and retired last year to enjoy hobbies and family. He was a lifelong member of Memorial Baptist Church, serving as deacon, Sunday school teacher, and various other positions. Ken was an avid reader and Civil War historian, focusing on Caroline and surrounding counties, where he served as president of both Caroline and King George Historical Societies. He was a devoted volunteer at Chatham Manor, part of the Fredericksburg National Military Park. He enjoyed visiting universities and libraries across the country gathering research and sharing his knowledge with others.Most of all, he loved spending time with his family. From quiet get-aways with his wife to cheering on his grandsons at every sporting event, to taking in the arts with his granddaughter. His passion for reading and fishing were passed down to his sons and grandsons. Spending a day fishing with "D-daddy" was always a great time.The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, February 2 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.A funeral service will be held at noon Tuesday, February 3 at the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations may be made to Memorial Baptist Church, 719 Water St., P.O. Box 113 Port Royal, VA 22535.
