Mary Patterson “Patty” Wray of Wildewood Downs, Columbia, S.C., formerly of Lake of the Woods, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013.

The daughter of Mary Zirkle and Eugene Maurice Beckman and widow of James F. “Jimmy” Wray, Patty was born in Cumberland, Maryland on September 3, 1924.

Patty and her husband, Jimmy, moved to Lake of the Woods in 1991.  Patty was active in her church here, participating in the Altar Guild, the Worship and Music Committee, and a close-knit Bible Study Group.  She established and maintained the Tree of Life at the church in memory of her husband and other deceased parishioners.

Patty possessed a generosity of spirit and kindness of soul, always reaching out to newcomers whom she met at church and at Wildewood Downs. She was an avid Redskins fan and also followed politics with exuberance.  She especially enjoyed being active in the Susan Allen Republican Women’s Club while living in Virginia.

In addition to her husband, Patty was predeceased by her sister, Kathryn Rosenmarkle.

She is survived by her three children, James M. Wray of Hot Springs, Montana, Kathy Taylor-Genson of Locust Grove, and Patrick Wray and his wife, Judy, of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.  Patty was known as “Mimi” to her four grandchildren, Laura Taylor-Goodrich and husband Byron and Douglas “D.J.” Taylor and wife, Danielle, all of Columbia, and Zoe and Jessica Wray of Mechanicsburg.

A service of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 18 at Lake of the Woods Church, Locust Grove with Minister Michael Lemay officiating.  Interment will follow at the Mount Hebron Cemetery in Winchester.

Memorial donations in Patty’s name may be made to Lake of the Woods Fire and Rescue, 104 Lakeview Parkway, Locust Grove, VA 22508.
