Albert Eugene “Gene” Henderson

Albert Eugene “Gene” Henderson, 71, of Spotsylvania County passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, at his home surrounded by family.

Gene was born in May of 1951 in Birmingham, Alabama to William and Patricia Henderson. In 1969, after graduation from Woodlawn High School, Gene joined the United States Navy where he attended multiple schools to become an electrician on the USS Bergall until 1977.  

Gene was an amazing husband, father, and grandfather. He married Judy in Baltimore, Maryland in 1970 and they became parents to Angela in 1972 and Patricia in 1975. After leaving the Navy, Gene traveled with his family all over the country working at Nuclear Power Plants until he settled down with Virginia Power in 1986 where he worked for 25 years.

Life lessons were taught in his household such as how to cook, and how to change your oil and a tire.  Gene took his family on many fun vacations and one of his favorite places was Corolla in the OBX. An avid race car lover, he had multiple race cars through the years as well as taking his family to multiple races in the country. Gene worked hard and played hard. He was truly one of a kind and an amazing human.   

He is survived by his wife, Judy; daughters Angela and Patricia (Rodney); four grandchildren, Taylor (Tyler), Michael, Katelyn, and Trey; brother Patrick; and sisters Linda and Patricia. 

He was predeceased by his parents, William J. and Patricia Maude Henderson; brother William J. Henderson; and sister Sheila Odom. 

A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home chapel. Inurnment will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, November 21 in Culpeper National Cemetery.
