Allen Salo, 86, passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at Paramount Assisted Living in Fredericksburg, Virginia. He was born on October 23, 1936 in Swan River, Minnesota.

Allen graduated from Grand Rapids High School in 1954. In March 1956, he received his Associates of Art degree from Itasca Junior College. Allen was in the United States Navy from 1956 to 1958 as a Navy Cadet in the Flight Program and sailed on the USS Saratoga.

In June of 1965, Allen graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor’s of Science degree. He was a music teacher in elementary school for about two years. He married Sandra Salo on December 20, 1959. Allen retired from the government after 25 years as a civilian personnel director. Before his retirement, he moved many times from Wisconsin, Idaho, Virginia, Alaska, and Colorado. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and traveling. Allen had a great personality and made everyone smile and laugh. He was president of the North Port Art Guild in Florida and of the National Association of Retired Federal employees. Allen was an active Mason and Shriner.

Allen is survived by his daughters, Marie Staie (David) and Rona Costello (Jeff); grandchildren Eva VanEpps (Isaac), Miranda Morales (Robert); Sarah Staie, Chris Staie (Aida), Amanda Perdue (Kent), and Olivia Anderson (John); as well as 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Salo; parents Frank and Helen Salo; grandson Jeffrey Costello; sister Bertha Carlson; and brothers Elmer Salo and Willard Salo.
