Tribute

Andrew Sciascia, 91, of Locust Grove, passed away on Sunday, November 24, 2019 at Mary Washington Hospital.

Andrew was surrounded by many of his family members, he joined his beloved Hanna to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Andrew was born in Brooklyn, New York, on November 2, 1928, and he was the son of Salvatore and Marion Sciascia. He grew up in Brooklyn, NY where he played stick ball and dreamt of becoming a professional baseball player. Andrew joined the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1970 and served in both the Korean and Vietnam wars. He also was the short stop for the U.S. Army traveling baseball team which allowed him to fulfill his childhood dream while serving his country.

Andrew was stationed in Nurnberg Germany, where he met his beloved wife Hanna who he married, together they returned to states and raised five children. After the Army, he worked at Giant. People would go out of their way to stand in line and have a conversation with Andrew because he made everyone feel important and just a little bit better about their day. Andrew later worked as a Prudential agent, where he made many friends, and lifelong relationships.

Andrew especially was a loving father, the best grand, great, and great-great-grandfather a family could have. He always had a special gleam in his eyes when he could have all his children and their children around him. It was the highlight of his life.

Survivors include his five children Christine Ocetnik (Harald), Andy Sciascia, Jr. (Marina), Bobby Sciascia (Lynn), Marion Eckelberry (Dale), and Roland Sciascia; 14 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren. Andrew was preceded in death by his wife Hanna.
