Barbara Malloy of Fredericksburg passed away April 25, 2021 at Mary Washington Hospital.
She was born November 14, 1921 to Charles Edward Killary and Marjorie May Dodds in Burlington, Vermont and graduated from Burlington High School in 1938.
She met the love of her life, Donald William Malloy, when they were just 15. They eloped in 1943 while he trained in Alabama as a pilot in the Army Air Corps during World War II. They wrote constantly while he was overseas and later taken prisoner, and she was much relieved upon his safe return. Barbara and Don shared a special bond that lasted the next 70 years. Barbara was a devoted mother who always put her family first. After the war, they moved to New Providence, New Jersey where they raised their three children. She continually filled the home with love, laughter, and fresh baked apple pie.
After retirement, Barbara and Don settled in Fredericksburg where they enjoyed traveling. She loved to knit and spend quality time with her growing family.
She is survived by her daughter Marjorie Berry and her husband James Berry of Fredericksburg; son William and his wife Melissa of New York City; daughter-in-law Barbara Malloy of Naples, Florida, Debra Malloy of West Dover, Vermont, Roy and Rita Olan of St. John’s Island, South Carolina; 11 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. Barbara was predeceased by her husband of 70 years, Donald Malloy; her son Gregory; her brother David; and her parents.
Her family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Spring Arbor Assisted Living Facility where she was lovingly cared for during the last three years.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 5, at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Spotsylvania. Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. in Quantico National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
