Barbara Theresa Simpson

Barbara Theresa Simpson was born on December 4, 1949, at the Victoria Jubilee Hospital in Kingston, Jamaica, and departed this life on December 1, 2021.

Barbara grew up in King Weston, St. Andrew, and then moved to Kingston, where she met Franklin Simpson. They both relocated to Ensom City, St. Catherine before settling in Green Acres, St. Catherine.

Barbara received her early education at the King Weston All Age and Kingston Technical High schools in Jamaica. Upon graduating, she then went on to work with the Workers Bank of Jamaica and the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Information, where she completed her Associate Degree in Accounting. Barbara joined the Ministry of Education as a clerk and worked her way up until she became the Director of Budget, where she retired in 2009.

She was affectionately called Monica, Ms. Barbara, Ms. B, Simmo, Mommy, Mum, or Breakie and was very devoted to, and absolutely adored her children and grandchildren. She was very supportive and committed to her family and friends and would prepare the most delightful and flavorful Jamaican meals for anyone visiting her. She loved shopping, making her house a home, listening to her favorite radio station and completing her crossword puzzles.

Barbara leaves to cherish her memory, her husband Frank Simpson; daughter Michelle Simpson; son Christopher Simpson; grandchildren Bjorn, Jabari, Jahzara and Jovani; stepchildren Sonia, Faithlyn and Andrew; daughter-in-law Roxanne; and a host of cousins, extended family, many friends, and well-wishers to mourn her transition. She was preceded in death by Elias Breakenridge, Sylvester Breakenridge, Patsy Breakenridge.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 18 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.

Barbara is gone but will never be forgotten.  Her life lessons and legacy lives on in everyone whose life she has touched.  Barbara has made an incredible impact on our lives in several ways that we should all cherish even now that she is gone.
