Billy Ray Templeton, 84, passed away on Monday, September 14, 2020 at his residence due to complications developed from contracting COVID-19.
Billy was born on February 6, 1936 in Rocksprings, Texas. He grew up on a ranch and proudly served in the Marine Corps after graduating from high school. After serving his country for four years, he attended Humboldt State University in California. Upon graduating from Humboldt State, he started his 35-year career with the U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM). His last position with the BLM was the State Director of Nevada. After retiring from the BLM, he enjoyed working for the National Rifle Association in Fairfax, VA for ten years.
Billy was exceptionally kind, patient, and humble. He always put others before himself. He loved his wife and appreciated the little things in life. He was a talented wood carver and a great dancer. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting at Fort A. P. Hill and fishing at Occoquan Regional Park.
Billy is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Elise; four sons, Bill, Eric, Terry Marquez and Greg Marquez (Trude); two daughters, Wendy Mroka (Robert) and Karen Nelson (David); two step-sons, Greg Wheatley (Mary) and Chris Wheatley (Beth); 14 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Bessie Templeton, and siblings George, David, Archie and Doris Thompson.
There was a private viewing for the family. Interment will be held in Quantico National Cemetery on Friday, September 25th at 10:30 a.m. Due to COVID-19, a memorial service may be held in the future.
