Carson “Wayne” Garner

Carson “Wayne” Garner, 72, of Spotsylvania County passed away on Tuesday, January 25, 2022 after a long battle with COPD. Wayne was born on November 18, 1949 to the late David and Irma June Garner in Springfield, Virginia.

After graduating from Lee High School in 1968, he followed in the footsteps of his father and began working as a brick mason. In 1972, Wayne met Brenda Wolfe and they were wed later that year.

Wayne was a dedicated Christian and was a deacon of Mine Road Baptist Church in Spotsylvania. When not adoring his two granddaughters, Wayne could be found at a local fishing hole or hunting. He also loved watching Alabama football or hosting holiday celebrations. Wayne was a loyal friend, neighbor and was known for doing all he could to help others.

Aside from being survived by his wife, he had two children, Carson Wayne Garner, Jr. (and his husband, Tyler Garcia) and Sherry Garner, both of Spotsylvania, Virginia. Wayne is also survived by his loving granddaughters, Kiyawna (and boyfriend, Ryan Daniel) and Aubreyawna; and two brothers Dale Garner (and his wife, Gaye) and James Watkins, Jr. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Davy Garner; and step-father James Watkins.

A service will be held at noon on Saturday, February 5, 2022 at Mine Road Baptist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow in Mine Road Baptist Church Cemetery. At the conclusion of all of the services, a reception will take place at the church’s fellowship hall.
