Charles Gerald Duffy

October 28, 1934 ~ November 18, 2023 (age 89) 89 Years Old


Charles Gerald “Charlie” Duffy, 89, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 18, 2023. 

Charlie grew up in Baileys Crossroads, Virginia, the youngest of nine children born to Francis Luke Aloysius Duffy and Ruth Agnes Tobin Duffy of Washington, D.C.  He married his beloved wife, Betty, in 1950 and they lived in Arlington, Roanoke, and Chesapeake, Virginia. After working for Southern Railroad for 42 years as a Legal Administrator, Charlie retired and moved to Spotsylvania to be near family. In 2016, he and Betty relocated to Jacksonville, Florida. 

Charlie was the sweetest man, known for his faith and love. He will be missed by all who knew him. He loved his family dearly and helped anyone in need. He had a great love and talent for music, singing in many quartets which included the Redskins Singers, the 4 Ds, the Lads and Dads and others.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Betty; two sons, Charles Gerald, Jr. and Patrick (Cindy); two daughters, Bonnie and Colleen; 16 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. 

He was predeceased by his parents; eight siblings; and beloved daughter-in-law, Susan.   

A funeral Mass to honor Charlie will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 30, 2023 at St. Matthew Catholic Church. The family will receive friends beginning at 10 a.m. at the church. A small reception will be held at the church following the Mass. Interment will be at 12 p.m. on Friday, December 1 at Washington National Cemetery.
