Clarence Newman Leggett passed away peacefully at his home on June 12, 2022. He was born in West Union, WV on April 28, 1935, to the late Clyde Leggett and Janet Duty Leggett. Preceding him in death were his two sons, Shayne Leggett of Spotsylvania, Craig Leggett of Williamsburg, and his brother Parke Leggett of Clarksburg, WV.
After receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree from Salem College, Salem, WV, in 1967, Mr. Leggett began his teaching career in Stafford County. He taught Industrial Arts at Stafford Middle School, was an assistant football coach at Stafford H S and was the baseball coach at Stafford H S in 1967-68. In 1969 he began teaching in Prince William County at Fred Lynn. After leaving Fred Lynn, he began teaching High School Industrial Arts, and Building Trades. His program served students from Gar-Field H S, Woodbridge H S, Stonewall Jackson H S and Potomac H S. In 1993-94 Mr. Leggett served as president of the Prince William Education Association, and in 1996-98 he served as vice president. He retired from Potomac in 1998 where he also taught architectural drawing and construction.
As a long time, member of Saint Peter’s Lutheran Church in Stafford, he enjoyed chairing the Property committee and remodeling various areas of the building and classrooms. He initiated and remodeled the pulpit, choir, and praise band areas with the assistance of fellow church members.
He is survived by Carolyn Leggett, his wife of 67 years, his daughter Kimberly Kepcke and husband Jeff of King George, his sister Donna Luh and husband Jerry of Oriental, NC, two daughters in law Tammy Leggett of Spotsylvania, Carol Leggett of Williamsburg.
He is also survived by six grandchildren: Patrick Leggett, Jonathan Kepcke, Nolan Leggett, Shannon Ireland and husband Clark, Ashley Leggett, and Angela Leggett Thomas and husband, and three great grandchildren and numerous cousins.
The family will receive friends at Covenant Funeral Services - Stafford from 6:00 until 8:00p.m. Friday June 24, 2022. A service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, June 25, 2022, at Saint Peter’s Lutheran Church, 1201 Courthouse Rd., Stafford, VA 22554.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Clarence to Saint Peter’s Lutheran church.
