Claude G. Byram

September 15, 1940 ~ January 8, 2024 (age 83) 83 Years Old

Claude G. Byram, 83, of Stafford County passed away on January 8, 2024 peacefully at his home in Mountain View.

Born as the only child to Gordon and Roberta Byram, he was a graduate of Stafford High School class of 1957. Claude worked many of his younger years in his parents’ grocery store, Byram’s Market, and was a fireman at Fort Belvoir for thirteen years before medically retiring as a Crew Chief. He then worked as the first Fire Administrator for Stafford County. He was a life member of Falmouth Fire Department as well as Mountain View Volunteer Fire Department where he served as former Chief. Claude was also employed with the Virginia Department of ABC for thirty years and retired as assistant manager, soon after returning to ABC to work part time. For the last eight years of his working career, he joined the great team at Covenant Funeral Service. Claude was known as the Mayor of Mountain View and was a great friend to everyone as he never met a stranger. His sense of humor and ability to make everyone laugh will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his eleven year old son Robert (d. February 3, 1979); and his parents. He is survived by his wife and high school sweetheart of 63 years, Nancy Byram; daughter Carolynn Nesmith (Scott); granddaughters Jennifer Hitt (Richard) and Jessica Massara (Ted); beloved great-grandsons Landon, Grayson aka “my man”, and Cayden Hitt; and great-granddaughter Julia Massara. Claude also leaves behind his Mountain View family who he cherished and loved throughout his entire life. He and his family are very thankful for all their love and support over the years.

Claude and his family would like to thank the loving team at Mary Washington Hospice.
