David W. Rice

David W. Rice, 69, of Stafford passed away in peace on September 7, 2021 surrounded by his family.

David retired from Giant Food as a meat cutter after 32 years. He was an avid outdoorsman and founded the “Buck Master Doe Blaster Hunt Club” where he was a mentor of many young hunters and known as "Papa Smurf".  David joined Fredericksburg Rescue Squad in 1990 and served the community as a volunteer Medic, rising through the ranks he held the offices of Captain and President, earning the status of Life Member. David was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles AEIRE 4123.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Carol; his children, Scott Rice and Greg Rice (Debbie). He was a devoted husband, father, Grandpa and PawPaw to his family.  His grandchildren were the light of his life Cody (Brooke), Nikki and Devon along with his great grandchildren Logan, Sophie and Piercen. He is survived by his brothers, Tommy Rice (Marilyn) and Jeff Rice (Sherry) and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents Hervey “Pops” and Betty Rice.

Services Come as you are...The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at Sunset Memorial Gardens.  A procession will be led from Covenant Funeral Service at 9:30 a.m. to the graveside service.
