David R. White

David R. White, age 74, of Fredericksburg passed away at home on March 24, 2020 from complications of Parkinson’s disease. 

A native of Washington D.C., he attended Wakefield High School graduating with honors in 1964. He attended The College of William and Mary and graduated in 1968 as a member of ROTC with a B.S. in history. He entered the U.S. Army and served in the Vietnam War. He served 24 years with tours in Panama, Germany and South Korea working primarily in logistics which fulfilled his innate need to take care of others. Following retirement as a Lt. Colonel, he worked in a second career with ITS and CSC where he served the Department of Education, the Internal Revenue Service and various other entities.

He was an alma mater of summer camp at Camp Medomak and subsequently became a frequent visitor of mid-coastal Maine for family vacations. His hobbies included membership in the history club at Virginia Heritage and serving as an adjunct professor for the ROTC at both William and Mary and Christopher Newport colleges, where he mentored future officers of the Armed Forces. In recent years, his love for Jesus has inspired him to write religious poems and prayers. 

David is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Ana R. White; his daughters, Robbin Duren (Jeff), Yvonne Quigley (John); his son, Alex Cannan; and grandchildren Nicole Cannan, Bryce Duren, Hannah Duren, and Shauna Quigley; and his brother, Donald White. 

A  service will be held at 12:45 p.m. on Tuesday, September 8 at Fort Myer Old Post Chapel with interment to follow in Arlington National Cemetery.
