Dean Gerald Wheet, 88, of Fredericksburg, Virginia passed away on Monday, November 14, 2022.
Born in Elmira, New York, Dean spent the early years of his life on a dairy farm. He enlisted in the Coast Guard in 1958, after which he proudly served tours at aviation stations including Miami (Opa Locka), Honolulu (Barbers Point), Elizabeth City, and San Diego. Dean retired from the USCG in 1977 as a CWO4 at Headquarters in Washington, DC, and he spent his time golfing, and building cabinets and furniture. He was a devoted husband and father, always happiest when surrounded by his family.
He is survived by his beloved wife Shirley (Hotchkiss) Wheet and their three daughters Lori Wheet, Julie Wheet-Little and Janice Wheet Yun. He was a proud grandfather to three grandchildren Ashley Jarrell Ellsworth, Benjamin Wood and Stephen Yun. He was also a great-grandfather to four.
A private family interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
