Dixie Lee Skala Kennedy was born to William and Irene Skala on November 10, 1943 in Litchfield, Nebraska where she was also raised. She died on June 18, 2020 at 7:53a.m. in Stafford, VA at Stafford Hospital.
In 1963 she moved to Washington, D.C. where she worked for the Department of the Navy until 1965 when she married Robert Kennedy. During this time until 1983, she was a homemaker and lovingly cared for her family. In 1983 she returned to the workforce working for the United States Marine Corps until her retirement in 2014.
In 1984, she made her home in Stafford, Virginia where she met and married her second husband Maxwell Gardner Disharoon. Dixie is survived by her husband, Max, her two daughters, Ann Marie Kennedy Cole, Ellen Lynn Kennedy Sattig, her sons-in-law, Charles Cole and Stephen Sattig, her grandchildren, Kevin McCormick, Galen Cole, Benjamin Sattig, Grace Sattig, her two step daughters Deanna Disharoon and Kerry Disharoon and her sister Cathie Hoblyn.
She lived a full and humble life and was deeply spiritual. She will be cremated and per her wishes no service will be held.
