Dolores Miskinis Heazlit, 94, peacefully left this life and entered into Jesus’ arms on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at her home in Fredericksburg surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Pittsburgh, PA on August 23, 1927 to Clement and Viola Miskinis. A quiet, devout Christian woman, she privately managed and lived her entire life for the day she would meet her Lord.
Dolores lived her early life in Pittsburgh, PA surrounded by a close-knit family and friends. She moved to Washington, DC to support the war effort during World War II. She and her husband, a World War II veteran, settled down and lived in College Park, MD for 34 years when he suddenly passed away. She continued to live on her own in the same home for another 22 years and supported many close friends by helping them with aging in place and volunteering to be there as end-of-life caregiver support for their families. Dolores retired after 20 years from being a dedicated volunteer coordinator for the American Red Cross. She loved that she was able to help others in need, the recurring theme of her life. In 2002, she left her longtime home and closest friends to move closer to her daughter and into an active senior apartment complex in Fredericksburg, VA. She met new friends, became a member of Salem Baptist Church, lived a modest life, and helped others by being a prayer warrior and donating to many Christian organizations, veterans groups, and charities. She will be dearly missed by the many people she touched.
She is the beloved mother of Theodore W. Heazlit, Jr. (Jeanette) and Cynthia Duffy (Patrick). She is survived by her sister, Claire Buczynski; grandchildren Michael Heazlit, Steven Heazlit, William Wuyek, Jr., Mark Wuyek, Thomas Wuyek, and Katie Wuyek; great-grandchildren Mary Heazlit, Hunter Heazlit, Cameron Wuyek, Lauren Wuyek, and Adelyn Wuyek; as well as many dearly loved nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Theodore W. Heazlit, Sr.; brothers Eugene Miskinis and Clement Miskinis; and sisters Marian Dudash, Lillian Miskinis; and infant sister Christina Marie Miskinis.
A Christian graveside service will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2022 at 2:30 p.m. at Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery (11301 Crain Highway, Cheltenham, MD).
In lieu of flowers, please say a prayer for those in need, and/or contribute to the American Red Cross (https://www.redcross.org/donations/ways-to-donate.html) or Salem Baptist Church (http://salembc.com/give).
