Donald "Don" Harris Shiffert

Donald “Don” Harris Shiffert, 83, of Fredericksburg peacefully passed away on October 19, 2020.

Don was born on December 15, 1936, in East Greenville, PA to Nelson and Beatrice Shiffert. In 1954, he enlisted in the US Marine Corp, completed basic training at Parris Island, SC, and was assigned to the 8th Motor Transportation Battalion, FMF in Albany, GA.  In 1964, he was transferred to the Data Processing Division at USMC HQTRS Navy Annex, Arlington, VA.  After 38 years of Federal service this USMC Veteran and Civil Servant retired in 1992.

In retirement he enjoyed more time with family and friends, being active in church and the local community. He supported his children and grandchildren’s school and sports activities. He served as President of two NARFE Chapters and was the VA State Treasurer; Commander of the American Legion Post 290; member of the Marine Corps League and the Falls Run Wall of Honor Committee.

Don was truly loved and blessed. He is survived by his loving wife Jean; sons Scott (Lisa), Kent, Grant (Sherry), daughter Tara (John) and seven grandchildren; Arika (Ryan), Emma, David, Wylie, Olivia, Owen, Avery; and siblings Sandy (Ed), Terry, and Gary (Carol). He was preceded in death by his sister Jean and son Troy.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 29 at Covenant Funeral Service, Stafford, VA with a funeral service following at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Quantico National Cemetery.
