Doris Cooper, 92, passed away on Thursday, July 7, 2022. Our Mom was born Doris Virginia Johnson at Green Bank Farm in Berea on February 12, 1930 to the late Paul and Ethel Johnson.
Mom was a world class, amazing, and loving mother, and a very elegant lady. She was an incredibly creative woman and it showed in most all aspects of her life. She was a talented seamstress, and loved growing and arranging flowers. Doris designed for her home and decorated for many large charitable and social events in the Washington, D.C. area. She was a docent at Arlington House for 14 years. Doris was a loyal and caring friend to many people.
Dorry, as she was known to her friends, spent most of her adult life living in Annandale where she and her husband, George, designed and built their home. Later in life, they had a summer home built in Cape Cod. Again, Doris did much of the designing herself and made it a "happy house" where friends and family loved to gather.
She leaves behind her children, Paul Kelly Cooper (Mia Lee), Robin C. Collins (Kevin), and Christopher W.S. Cooper (Jennifer); six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sister Peggy "Auntie" Johnson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George H.V. Cooper.
A small family graveside service was held on July 12, 2022 at the Berea Community Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Mary Washington Hospice.
