Doris Simms

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Doris Simms, 85, a life-long resident of Spotsylvania County, who went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 27, 2023.

Doris and her husband, Roy, were married in 1956. She worked outside the home at the United States Post Office until the birth of their first daughter, then spent her time taking care of her family. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will forever be missed. 

Doris was a beautiful person inside and out. She cared deeply for the people around her and was a talented seamstress, cook, and homemaker. Doris sewed outfits for her daughters, to include their wedding gowns and bridesmaids’ dresses, and decorated wedding cakes for many people throughout the years.  She and her sister Nancy could sew and craft anything they could imagine.

Doris will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 67 years, Roy Simms; children Donna (Steve) Lockhart and Kristal Rust; grandchildren Emma Rust, Hunter Lockhart, Corbin Rust-Gentry, and Alyssa Rust-Gentry; great-grandson Grayson; and sister Frances Carnohan.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 3, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
