Tribute

Dorothyjean Downs Jamieson, 94, of Fredericksburg died peacefully on Saturday, February 16, 2019. 

“DJ” was a graduate of Rider College, later earning her Master’s in Education through NYU.  As a dedicated and revered high school business education teacher, she took great pride in preparing young women for success in the world of business and finance.  She retired from Union Township, N.J. in 1989 and continued to maintain friendships with former students throughout her life. DJ served on the Board of Education for five years, she was also a long time member and president of the Union Township Garden Club.  As an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star for 76 years, she served as Worthy Matron as well as District Deputy and Secretary to the MWGM.  In addition to numerous accolades for her volunteer endeavors, Dorothyjean was the recipient of the Humanitarian Award from the Masonic Home in Burlington, N.J. for more than 1000 hours of service.  DJ moved to Fredericksburg in 1989 where she continued her volunteerism at the Visitor’s Center and the public library in addition to being a member and past president of the Woman’s Club of Fredericksburg.  She was an active member of the St. George’s Episcopal Church Women, serving as President of the Mary Faulkner Chapter in 2003. She was a loving mother, passionate world traveler, avid bridge player and devoted community volunteer. 

Survivors include her son, John Edward Jamieson (Elizabeth); daughter Eleanor Jamieson Ledoux (Marque); grandchildren Ryan Andrew Jamieson (Cynthia), Benjamin Charles Jamieson (Erica), Jessica Marie Ledoux, William McKittrick Jamieson, Elizabeth Ruby Jamieson and Jamieson Alexander Ledoux; and two great-grandchildren Harper Jean Jamieson and Conrad Asher Jamieson. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mildred Eleanor McKittrick Downs and John Wallace Downs. 

 A service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 23 at St. George’s Episcopal Church. Interment will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, February 25 in Bayview Cemetery in Jersey City, N.J.
