Douglas Brian Cook, 65, of Fredericksburg passed away Sunday, January 9, 2021 at home with his loved ones by his side after a courageous battle with Leukemia.
Doug was born January 28, 1956 in Alexandria, VA to the late William Douglas and Catherine Elizabeth Cook. He was one of six children.
Doug graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1974 where he excelled at sports. After graduation, he traded in his bat and glove and went into the family asphalt business working alongside his dad and brothers, and eventually, his nephews and son. Following in his father’s footsteps, he proudly started his own company, Fredericksburg Asphalt & Paving, with his wife Monica. Doug was a hard worker and loved every aspect of the business.
Doug was a true family man; family was everything to him. He was raised to put family first, work hard, and love large, and he lived by that. His parents taught him to live life to the fullest. He was so proud of his own family and his grandchildren, who were the light of his life. Being “Gaga” was his greatest joy. Doug loved to dance, and could cut a rug anywhere with Monica if music was playing. Doug was a diehard Redskins fan and loved game day spent with his family cheering on the team.
Doug lived the dream. Not many can say they were able to live their dreams, but Doug did. Doug smiled with his eyes and lit up the room when he walked through the door. He was a truly happy man. Life was simple to Doug; family, good friends, good food, and good times. Doug never met a stranger and made a friend everywhere he went. Doug loved unconditionally.
He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Monica Cook of Fredericksburg, VA; daughter Jamie Jett of Fredericksburg, VA; grandchildren Selina, Kaylin, Zander, Harley, Kameron and Fox who lovingly called him Gaga; sister Carolyn Mann of Oriental, NC; sister and brother-in-law Lea and Mike Frye of Woodridge, VA; sister-in-law Barbara Cook; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Bill and Beverly Wood; brother-in-law Jim Wood; mother-in-law Martha Wood; eight nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and nephews.

A service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, January 18 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
