Douglas Carlyle Fines

March 7, 1941 ~ April 27, 2022 (age 81) 81 Years Old

Tribute

Douglas “Carlyle” Fines, 81, of Spotsylvania passed away on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center. Carlyle was born on March 7, 1941 in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

Carlyle joined the Fire Department at a young age and was a firefighter with Fredericksburg Fire Department, earning the rank of Fire Chief and Fire Marshall.

Dad loved to work with his hands, he would spend hours in his workshop “tinkering.” As his children, anything we needed, he was there for us, many times dropping what he was doing to come to our aid.  Dad loved being outside and would find “projects” that would allow him time outside. He loved nothing more than a good fishing trip, even it was just to throw back everything that he caught. Dad was never at a loss for words, even if you didn’t want to hear what he had to say, you were going to know exactly how he felt.

Carlyle is survived by his two sons, Douglas Carlyle Fines II (Karen) of Spotsylvania and JD Fines (Angela) of Caroline; daughter Valerie Fines Smith (Samuel) of Spotsylvania; grandson Douglas Carlyle Fines III (Jo) of Richmond; two granddaughters, Kayla and Ashley Morris both of Spotsylvania; as well as one great-granddaughter, Juniper Fines of Richmond.

Carlyle was preceded in death by the love of his life, Judy, whom he mourned since the day she left his side.

The hole left in our hearts is immense, we take solace knowing he and mom are back together as one. One day, we will join them and the circle will be unbroken.
