Dr. William O. "Jack" Wills, III

Dr. William O. “Jack” Wills, III, Optometrist passed away on Friday, July 22, 2022. He was born on September 14, 1942 in Richwood, West Virginia and came a long way from a young man working on a coal tipple and swinging a scythe. Jack was also a local radio DJ in Richwood.

Jack graduated from SCO in 1967, served as an Army Captain in the medical corps in the Vietnam era at Ft. Eustis, and practiced as an optometrist in Fredericksburg for over 50 years. He enjoyed traveling, scuba diving, biking, skiing, skeet shooting, and shooting pool.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Jöelle, with whom he worked with his entire career. He is also survived by Stewart E. Wills (Teresa), Stephan C. Helms (Darlene), William “Chip” Wills, and McKenzie H. Wills (Andi).

The family would like to thank Commonwealth Senior Living staff for his excellent care, especially CNA, Carol.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Monday, August 1, 2022 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.

In lieu of flowers, friends and family are encouraged to honor Jack’s memory by donating to a charity of their choice.
