Edith Marie McWhirt

Edith Marie McWhirt, 94, of Fredericksburg (formally of Alexandria) passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 6, 2021 at Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center.

She was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Her light shined the brightest when she could be a caregiver to her family and friends in time of need.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Knight (J.W.); grandchildren Kelly Tolley (Ed), Karin Hertzog, Steve Hertzog (Ashley); great-grandchildren Janelle Hertzog, Dylan Tolley, Alyssa Noble, and Declin Hertzog; step-grandchildren Casey Luck (Adam) and Will Knight; step-great-grandchildren Austin Luck (Laura), Kennedy Luck; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilson B. McWhirt; parents Thomas and Sally Biller Mudd; sisters Margaret Waddell and Joann Maynor; and brother Tootie Mudd.

A very special loving thanks to Dr. Rodd, her earthly angels fourth floor (SRMC), Cher at capital Caring Hospice, and all who cared for her these last few days with respect and dignity. With her passing my mother left us a gift of many lasting friendships during her care.

For everything she gave her family in 94 years: faith in God, strength, love, and kindness to everyone. She will be missed.

A graveside service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 11 at Fairfax Memorial Park, 9900 Braddock Rd., Fairfax, VA 22032.
