Edward Gordon “Ned” Hilldrup Jr., 68, of Spotsylvania County, died Saturday, November 9, 2019 at his residence.

Ned was born March 16, 1951 to E. Gordon Hilldrup and Anne Wood Hilldrup of Spotsylvania. After graduating from Spotsylvania High School, he graduated from the University of Richmond with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. Returning to Spotsylvania, he enjoyed a long career at the National Bank of Fredericksburg and then Union Bank and Trust. Upon leaving his banking career he was an agent for the Spotsylvania County Farm Bureau until his retirement.

Ned was an avid golfer and loved hunting and fishing. He was two-time president of the Fredericksburg Country Club, a longtime member of the Chancellor Ruritan Club and a member of the Rappahannock Model Railroaders. Ned loved his model trains and was elated when he and others of the Railroaders were invited and displayed a working model railroad at the Smithsonian in Washington DC for Christmas.

Ned enjoyed people and making them happy. Everyone loved listening to his stories.

He is survived by his wife, Marianna Davis Hilldrup; and stepdaughter, Natalie Kitchen. He is also survived by his brother, Jimmy Hilldrup, his wife Susan; nephew, Jamie Hilldrup, and his wife Linda, their children, Jacob and Luke; niece, Marianna Hilldrup Alzoukani, and her husband Ahmad; and nephew, Gregory Hilldrup.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 14, from 6-7:30 pm at Fredericksburg Baptist Church. Family will have a private interment at Spotsylvania Confederate Cemetery, Spotsylvania Courthouse on the morning of Friday, November 15, 2019. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at Fredericksburg Baptist Church as a time for family and friends to share and celebrate Ned’s life.
