Ervin Genning Dye

Ervin Genning Dye, 83, born October 27, 1937 in Hartwood, Virginia to Hughie and Katie Dye, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 23, 2021 in Fredericksburg surrounded by his loving family. 

Ervin worked at the G&H Pants factory in Fredericksburg until it closed in 1987.  Ervin worked for Lockheed Martin in Springfield until he retired. 

Ervin was very proud of his annual vegetable garden.  He believed Country Cooking had the best beets and ice cream.  He loved going to Grace Church in Hartwood for the Sunday Spaghetti Dinner with his niece, Diane Smith.  Ervin believed Steve Harvey (Family Feud) was the “best dressed man”. He loved to dance and his favorite song was “Blue Suede Shoes”.

Survivors include his daughter, Pat Cox (Doug); son Frank Fleming (Deb); two granddaughters April Hall and Emily Fleming; two grandsons Chris Cox and Charles Leitgeb; three great-granddaughters Alyssa and Loren Hall, and Ava Leitgeb; four great-grandsons Brayden and Austin Cox, Braydon and Landon Leitgeb; and one great-great-grandson Conor Hall; sisters Paulina Smith and Clara Payne; brother Aubrey Dye (Sadie); and many nieces, nephews and extended family.  Ervin was preceded in death by his wife, Lorene Wheeler Dye; father Hughie Dye; mother Katie Dye; brothers Archie, Lambert, and Myron; and sisters Leathie and Audrey.

Ervin will be dearly missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing him and his kindness, compassion and generosity. 

A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 5 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.  The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service.  Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
