Eugene Bowie “Gene” Dickinson, 83, of Spotsylvania County passed away on Sunday, October 17, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loved ones.
Gene was a graduate of Spotsylvania High School class of 1956. He was the first soda jerk at Hot Shoppes Restaurant. He worked at many auto dealerships around Fredericksburg. He then went into the Navy worked for Coca-Cola Bottling Co. He retired from D.C. Department of Corrections, later was a delivery driver for NAPA and Liberty Equipment. Gene was an avid wood worker, a collector, restorer and tinkerer of antique cars. He was a pillar of the community and a member of the board of directors in church. Not just a wonderful husband, father, brother, and uncle to so many, but beloved by a community. A Christian and a faithful follower of God. A friend to any and all. A man who loved to laugh and tell jokes, an example of living life to the fullest.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara B. Dickinson; children Loretta Fraley, Keith Thompson (Elaine), Debra Paessler, and Robert Dickinson; grandchildren Benjamin West, Lanie Beth Sinclair, Leslie Wilkins, Matthew Paessler, Gabrielle Nichole Nelson, and Isaac Fraley; great-grandchildren Rowan Sinclair, Darby Sinclair, Lilith Parker, Azrael Nelson, Scarlett Nelson, and Eleanor Wilkins; siblings Virginia May Hayden, Patsy Delano, Ruth Paker, Barbara Dickinson, and Dorothy Galligan; and many nieces and nephews along with their children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Hugh Mercer Dickinson; mother Virginia Gardner; step-mother Dorothy Dickinson; step-father Marvin Gardner; one son David Dickinson; and one granddaughter Callen Fraley.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, October 25, 2021 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. A service will be held at noon on Tuesday, October 26 at the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Laurel Hill Memorial Park.
