Everett Michael "Mike" Shelton

Everett Michael “Mike” Shelton, 78, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 14, 2022. 

He was born on November 16, 1943 to Everett and Selma Shelton and was a lifelong resident of Fredericksburg, VA. Mike began his 42 year VDOT career as a draftsman in 1961 and retired as the Fredericksburg District Bridge Engineer in 2003. He was a dedicated volunteer at St. Vincent de Paul and a respected member of St. Jude’s Catholic parish. He enjoyed a simple and full life comprised of volunteering, trips to the dump, yard work, solitaire, old westerns and weekends at CrossRip campground in Deltaville. However, nothing brought him more joy than being “Pa” to his beloved grandchildren. 

Mike is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Suzanne Shelton; four children, Chip Strong (Sherry), Jennifer York (Scott), David Strong (Angel) and Jill Lemon; nine grandchildren; and his only sister, Betsy Spradlin.  

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by Randall and Kaine Krieger.  

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at Covenant Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be held on November 23, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Jude’s Catholic Church.
