Floyd Frank Schad

May 28, 1934 ~ January 17, 2024 (age 89) 89 Years Old

Tribute

Floyd Frank Schad, 89, went to be with the Lord, peacefully, surrounded by family on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 after a yearlong battle with hemolytic anemia. He was born in Allentown, PA to Floyd Fremont & Violet May Schad on May 28, 1934.

Floyd served in the Army National Guard for several years and was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served for two years during the Cold War in Ansbach, Germany.

Floyd and his wife, Bess, moved to Fredericksburg, VA in 1962 where they established careers and raised their daughters, Kim and Angie. He was a member of Falmouth Baptist Church for most of his years in Fredericksburg.

Floyd made a career of being a proud lineman for VEPCO/Virginia Power/Dominion Power. He retired after 32 years in 1992. Floyd loved climbing the high towers towards the end of his career. After retirement, he enjoyed working for the Fredericksburg Auto Auction where he made many friends and got to drive a variety of different cars, which he truly enjoyed. Floyd also stayed busy working in his yard and enjoyed his winters in Tarpon Springs, FL for over 20 years. For many years, he loved attending NASCAR races with his friends and family. His “girls” (wife and daughters) were his pride and joy and he worked hard to provide for them!

He is survived by his wife, Bess C. Schad (just shy of their 69th anniversary on February 7, 2024); daughters Kim Oyler (Joe) and Angie Spencer (Roger); grandsons Joe Oyler (Britt), Jacob Oyler (Keely), and Ryan Spencer (Cindy); sole granddaughter, Karley Johns (Dylan); great-granddaughters Rylee Oyler, Lakin Spencer, and Sadie Johns; and long-time friend, Bill Adams.

He was preceded in death by his father, Floyd Fremont Schad (1936); mother Violet May Johnson (2006); and stepfather Leroy D. Rowe (1958).

The family will receive friends and family from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, January 22, 2024 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, January 23 at Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Home, Buena Vista with a visitation an hour prior. Interment will follow in Green Hill Cemetery.

Please sign the online guestbook and include any memorable stories you would like to share with the family.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Falmouth Fire Department in Floyd’s name.

The family would also like to thank the staff at Commonwealth Senior Living, Mary Washington Hospital, Falls Run Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and the Compassus Hospice care team for making his last days comfortable for him and his family.
