Frank William Baumgardner
November 21, 1938 ~ January 19, 2024 (age 85) 85 Years Old
Frank Baumgardner, 85, of Spotsylvania, VA passed away on Friday, January 19, 2024 at Mary Washington Hospital.
Frank was born in Alexandria, VA, in the old Alexandria Hospital downtown. At birth, his mother placed him for adoption because she was separated from her husband and wanted Frank to have a better life than she could provide for him. Therefore, he became a Baumgardner by adoption. Frank didn't learn of this until he was 12 years old. Later in life, he set out on the adventure of finding his birth family. Eventually, he wrote a short story about his search for his family and how he found them.
Frank had many hobbies, including fishing and watching or listening to NASCAR racing and he especially loved to cheer on his favorite driver, Dale Earnhardt, Sr. Frank was a great fixer upper! Frank was excellent with car mechanics and also enjoyed working on electronics.
In 1992, Frank and his wife, Jenny, began attending The Alive Gathering Ministries church. There, he and Jenny accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior in 1993. While there, Frank became a Deacon at TAGM and was the leader of the Men's Fellowship for many years until his health began to fail.
Frank spent quite a few years in the U.S. Air Force and his last tour of duty was at Elmendorf AFB, Anchorage, Alaska. Having a Master's Degree in both Technical Engineering and History, Frank worked on the Auto Pilot computer control systems while at Elmendorf AFB. During his Air Force days, Frank was a member of the Airman’s Club. Here, he participated in air shows, Airman’s Day, and other events. He was also active in the Air Force Special Olympics. His last job before retiring was at ST Research in Newington, VA where he worked on military security systems.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Virginia “Jenny” Baumgardner; children Frank “Bill” Jr., Robert, Turina, and Sheila; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at The Alive Gathering Ministries. Frank’s going home service will begin at noon and a small reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall of the church. Interment in Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors will be held at a future date, details to follow as they become available.
