Gail D. Russell, 78, of Fredericksburg passed away Sunday, February 24, 2019.
Gail joined the Potomac Hospital Leadership in October 1981 and led the nursing division until her retirement in 2011. She graduated from Georgetown University with a Master's Degree and managed the pediatric ICU there until coming to Potomac. Gail’s accomplishments are many, and she was a well-respected member of the Prince William community. Gail always believed in "giving back," and this was reflected in her commitment to community outreach. She was instrumental in the development and organization of the Prince William Free Clinic and the Pediatric Primary Care project. During her tenure as Nurse Executive, she was an advocate for her team and the patients served. Gail was a friend to many, loved her work, had a great sense of humor and was a tireless advocate if the cause was worthy.
Her commitment to service through the faith that guided her life was clear in her dedication to God and her family at Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fredericksburg where she served the youth education program, the homeless, and the Parish Health Ministry.
Survivors include her step-children, Jonathan Russell of Virginia and Betsy Russell Braun of Utah; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bill Russell.
