Gladys Jeanette Judy
Gladys Jeanette Judy, 83, of Fredericksburg was called to eternal life on Saturday, February 16, 2019 after a long battle with cancer.
Gladys was born on December 25, 1935 in Park City, Montana to Henry and Frida Winter, who moved to Windsor, Colorado when Gladys was two years old. In her late teens and adult life, she served as a dental assistant to Dr. C.W. Patterson in Greeley, Colorado. After moving to Washington, D.C., she was employed at the National Audiovisual Center and Environmental Protection Agency before serving more than 20 years as a Secretary-Stenographer to several Air Force Generals, a former U.S. Ambassador to China, and a Stanford University professor – all assigned to the Pentagon. In her last Pentagon position, she served as personal assistant to the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for International Security Policy and traveled to France, Germany, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, India, Pakistan, and Egypt. The last three years of her career, she served under the White House Personnel Office while still assigned to her position at the Pentagon.
Survivors include her two sons, Graham and Gregory Hughes; two grandsons Michael and Aaron Hughes; brother Harry Winter; sister Darlene Peters; step-daughter Linda Teffeau; step-son Mark Judy; 11 step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth E. Judy; her parents, Henry and Frida Winter; and brother Wilbert Winter, an Army Corpsman killed in Korea for which he received the Silver Star for gallantry in action.
A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 22 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. The family will receive friends one hour prior at the funeral home. Interment will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 25 in Quantico National Cemetery.
