Gregory D. DuChane, 69, passed away after a brief illness battling cancer on Saturday, November 11, 2023. Greg was born on March 12, 1954 in Aitkin, Minnesota to Owen and Vera DuChane.
Gregory graduated from Aitkin High School in 1972 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He proudly served for six years on the USS Enterprise (CVN-65). Following his service, he attended the University of Minnesota, earning his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. In 1984, Greg moved to the D.C. area to begin his career working for the former Naval Surface Warfare Center White Oak Division. In 1994, he relocated to Fredericksburg, Virginia to work at Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division and later to Marine Corps Base Quantico, in Marine Corps Systems Command.
Over the course of his career, Greg completed a Whiting School of Engineering Master of Science at The Johns Hopkins University, and a Master of Science in Education at Old Dominion University. Following his career working for the Department of the Navy, he taught middle school math before fully retiring.
Greg loved everything about Minnesota, except the cold. He enjoyed golf, NASCAR, baseball, including his newest favorite team, the Fred Nats, fishing, woodworking, and crossword puzzles. Together with Ann, he loved hosting parties and could usually be found manning the grill. He spent time during retirement volunteering at the local food bank and was an election officer for the last 17 years.
Greg is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years and favorite person, Ann, of Fredericksburg; his daughter, Marianne; son Joseph, both of Washington D.C.; his sister, Ramona DuChane of Grandview, Missouri; numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, friends, and his devoted dog, Hokie. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Pamela Pratt.
Greg was a kind, loving man with a wonderful sense of humor and a keen intelligence. He adored his family and was very proud of his two children. He was humble and grounded and often expressed his gratitude and appreciation for his life. He will be greatly missed.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at Covenant Funeral Service, Stafford. Inurnment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
