James L. Boggs
February 25, 1953 ~ October 31, 2023 (age 70) 70 Years Old
James L. Boggs, was born on February 25, 1953, and raised in Spotsylvania County, and passed away on Tuesday, October 31, 2023. In elementary school, he met his soulmate Victoria and never had eyes for anyone else.
James worked for Dominion Power his entire life, from picking up sticks creating Lake Anna to the time he retired being a nuclear maintenance mechanic. If those 60 hours a week weren’t hard enough, he also was responsible for his family’s 6th-generation family farm. It was there he devoted his life to raising his family and fulfilling his family’s duty. To take care of the 350-acre estate that has lasted two centuries in the family name and preserve it with the same intentions it was created for.
For you see inheriting a farm comes with no award show, no accolades, no PTO or sick days. The farm and land don’t wait for normal business hours for something to break. It doesn’t understand how to wait for paydays or to take a day off from holidays. It’s an industry that has high losses and low rewards.
The reward and why it’s done is simply for their father, their father before him, and so on. Though they may have never met in person, they see them in each blade of grass, each fence post, every oak and sycamore tree, and every livestock bloodline. It’s done because no generation got a free pass. Each generation faced their own challenges, demanding more resiliency than the last. Whether through economic decline, natural disasters, depressions, pandemics, or political wars. Some generations were well off, and some generations became flat broke whose only goal was to hold and preserve the legacy no matter the blood, sweat, and tears. It’s done, for nothing else but only for those past generations to know it wasn’t all for nothing. And that reason alone is enough.
He leaves behind the love of his life, Victoria; son Justin (Danielle); daughter Sarah; grandsons Blake, Austin, Ethyn; two granddaughters (Taylor, Alyxis); brothers Larry (Ann) and Johnny (Cathy); three nieces; and many cousins.
In heaven he will be reunited with his parents, Waller and Betty Boggs; oldest son Chad; and the other six generations of Boggs’ that oversaw Livingston Farm before him. Where they will be watching and may not be able to continue to teach but know their centuries-old stories, advice, and wisdom are forever the voices inside our heads.
