James David Hock, 79, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, August 4, 2020 after several months of declining health. He was born on May 24, 1941 in Zanesville, Ohio, the son of the late Wendell and Louise Vogel Hock. He was a graduate of Tennessee Temple College and Winona Lake Theological Seminary. On July 28, 1962 he married the love of his life, Karen Schramm Hock and they celebrated 58 years of marriage just one week before his death.
He served as pastor/missionary with Global Outreach Mission for 22 years in Marseille, France, in church ministries as well as bookstands in open markets, a Gospel tract ministry, and as interim pastor. In 1992 Jim and Karen took up a new ministry in the province of Quebec, Canada where he served as Associate Pastor in two churches, then began a new church as founding pastor in 2004, working a total of 18 years in this French province. Returning to Ohio in semi-retirement he led a group of 55+ seniors in a church there before moving to Virginia and volunteering at Ferry Farm Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife Karen; one brother, Ronald W. Hock of Newark, Ohio; three children, David Hock and wife Lisa Chronister Hock, Stephanie Ware, and Jeff Hock and wife Erin Douglas Hock; as well as ten grandchildren, Jordan, Nathan and Evan Hock, Jacqueline, Gwen and Caitlyn Ware and Aiden, Ryleigh, Mila and Nevyn Hock.
