James H. “Jim” Wilkerson, Sr.

James H. “Jim” Wilkerson, Sr., went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, September 14, 2023 following a short illness. Jim was born and raised in Dillwyn, VA.

After graduating from high school, he joined the Virginia Department of Transportation. After two years, he transferred to Fredericksburg where he met the love of his life, Ruth Ann Jones, and completed his 43 year career. After retirement, Jim continued to do what he enjoyed most, talking to and helping others. Jim and his wife of 60 years, Ruth Ann, enjoyed volunteering in the Patient Access department of Mary Washington Hospital where they made many new friends and were able to serve thousands of individuals from the community. As an avid hunter, he took great joy in working at Gander Mountain for several years where he met many individuals who shared his passion.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Ann; his daughter, Sandra Wilkerson Brown; son-in-law Robert “Andy” Brown; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, W. Thomas “Tommy” Jones (Debbie); several nieces and nephews; and four furry grandpups, Buddy, Tucker, Abby “Brillo”, and Coal. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Joshua H. and Fletcher J. Smith Wilkerson; and his son, James H. “Jimmy” Wilkerson, Jr.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
