Tribute

Jean Marie Mahoney (Delile) of Stafford, Virginia gained her wings November 18, 2023. She was born in Rosebank Staten Island, NY August 28, 1926 to Hubert Delile and Rose DeAngelo, raised in West Brighton until 12 by Margerette Hurly Kavanaugh, resided in Midland Beach with her father and stepmother Wilhelmina, lived in South Beach after PS18 and worked for the NYSE in Manhattan until marrying her darling, the late MSgt. Edward Mahoney of Fort Wadsworth Staten Island NY. They celebrated 62 years of marriage.

Jean grew up in an era of hard work, her hands stayed busy. She loved planning daily activities, being with family, going to church, creating beautiful gardens, singing the old songs, Gone with the Wind, handcrafts and Raggedy Ann. Besides gardening her talents include crocheting, knitting, sewing, embroidery and quilting. Due to her kind heart, she joyfully made beautiful things for many people, teaching anyone that wanted to learn. She loved Spring but Christmas was her favorite and she enjoyed decorating the tree to perfection, baking cookies with family, a decades old tradition, and making sure everyone was taken care of. She truly was the hostess with the mostess.

Jean loved life! It did not matter the task ahead she did it without a complaint. Because of her servant heart she helped anyone, anytime, anywhere. She loved to tell jokes but never finished them due to cracking herself up. Boy did she giggle for years over the purse taco prank too. She loved the softness of babies held in her arms and was proud of all our accomplishments. She was the June Clever/Edith Bunker/Kool-Aid mom to many people and a friend to everyone whether she knew you or not. Her heart was filled with faith, kindness, joy, love, and laughter. Not only was she one of a kind but also a gift to our family. We are blessed to have had Jean all our lives. Job well done, rest peacefully on angels’ wings.

In addition to her husband, Edward, she was preceded in death by her son Kevin; sisters Dorothy, Vivian, and Yvonne; brother Richard; and nephew Robert. She is survived by her daughter, Kathy and son-in-law Larry; son Jeffrey and daughter-in-law Cindy; sister Raven and brother-in-law Zeke; granddaughters Tracy, Cortney, Lisa, and Kacey; grandson Kyle; great-grandchildren Erika, Willah, Dakota, Krista, Layah, Ellanor, Waylon, Ryder, and Vivienne; plus nieces and nephews. She was loved by all and will be deeply missed.
