Joreen Hammons

Joreen Hammons, 92, passed away on Sunday, May 2, 2021 at her daughter’s home following an illness.

She was born on October 30, 1928 in Clintwood, VA to the late Rufus McCoy and Carrie Fleming McCoy.

Ms. Hammons loved to dance and cook for her family. She always tried to do the right thing. She sometimes failed as humans do, but most importantly she taught her family about God’s loving kindness and grace.

Survivors include one daughter, Linda Vranken of Spotsylvania; five grandchildren and their families, Aimee Mann (Jason), Jennifer Joseph (Tom), James Hammons (Liz), Echo Dean, and Dennis Hammons; 15 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Habern Hammons; and son Dennis Hammons.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, May 7 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 11 at Culpeper National Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the staff at Mary Washington Hospice for their extraordinary care and kindness. The family also thanks her two loving caregivers Flo and Koko.
