Tribute

Joseph Marshall DeCosta, 91, of New Port Richey, Florida passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, March 21,2024.

Joseph, a proud Marine and patriot, embarked on his journey with the Marine Corps in 1951, dedicating himself to service as an Avionics Maintenance Chief. His commitment led him to Vietnam from November 1967 to December 1968, where he demonstrated unwavering dedication. Stationed at Quantico, he found himself at the Weapon's Training Battalion, an integral part of the Marine Corps Shooting Team. Joseph's prowess with both pistol and rifle earned him the esteemed title of Distinguished Shooter. After 26 years of exemplary service, he retired from the Marine Corps on March 21, 1977, only to embark on a new chapter.

Joseph pursued higher education, earning a degree in accounting. This newfound expertise became the cornerstone of a thriving tax business he established, serving his community diligently for the next 45 years. Yet, his dedication to service didn't end there. The National Rifle Association recognized his talents, calling upon him to serve as the Range Engineer for the National Matches at Camp Perry in Ohio, a role he fulfilled with distinction for 33 years. Through his guidance and mentorship, he touched the lives of countless young individuals, leaving an indelible mark on their futures.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 63 years Eva Jeanne Dutile; two brothers John and Richard; sister Rose Schwartz; two grandchildren TJ Ricci and Britney DeCosta; and daughter-in-law Marie DeCosta.

Joseph is survived by six children, Jo-Anne Ricci (Tommy), Joseph M. DeCosta IV (Monika), Judith Parker (Franck), Jayne DeCosta, Jeannie Bailey (Dave) and James DeCosta; 15 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and over 50 nieces and nephews.
