On Tuesday, November 30, 2021 we lost a true hero, Tommy Russell, who passed away at the age of 94 in Stafford, Virginia.
Tommy was born, raised and lived the majority of his life in great town of Louisville, Kentucky. Tommy was a proud graduate in the first class of Flaget High School in 1945. Tommy was a highly decorated Veteran of the US Air Force serving in the Berlin Airlift and the Korean War, and he was very proud to be one of the first pilots of the P-51 Mustang. After serving his country, he returned to Louisville and worked as a Union Electrician for Bornstein and Henderson for 41 years. Tommy was a “life-member” of the American Legion (Highland Post #201) and the V.F.W, a proud member of the Bowman Field Aero Club, and St. Raphael’s Catholic Church. However, his greatest accomplishment was being a loving husband and an incredible father/grandfather.
Tommy is survived by his son, Steven Russell; grandchildren Brandi Russell and Dr. Kathryn Russell; and great-grandchild, Simone Schouwenaar. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sara Caple; parents Joseph and Marie Huhn Russell; brother J. Elliott; and sister Rose Marie Kamenish.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at Covenant Funeral Service, 1310 Courthouse Road, Stafford, VA. 22554. He will be laid to rest at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 10, 2021 in Quantico National Cemetery, 18424 Joplin Road, Triangle, VA. Both services are private for family and friends.
