Joyce Schluter Schutte

Joyce Schluter Schutte, 82, of Spotsylvania County passed away peacefully from this earth into her heavenly home and the arms of Jesus on Friday, July 16, 2021. She was longing to hear the words from Jesus “Well done, good and faithful servant!” and we are certain she did! She was surrounded by her children and grandchildren who will miss her terribly.

She was born, a fiery little red-head, October 17, 1938 in Crosby County, Ralls, TX but she considered her true birth to have been the summer of 1948 at a Baptist Bible Camp near Floydada, TX when she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior.

She knew her duty and purpose in life was to win other hearts to Jesus and she exhibited that loudly and proudly with every step she took. No one was a stranger when it came to telling them how much Jesus loves them. She wanted everyone to experience the love and peace that she had with Jesus.

Joyce had a heart for spreading God’s good news and felt called to go on several mission trips outside of the U.S. to do just that. The first trip was in 1958, at 20 years of age, when she spent three months in rural Mexico teaching children about God’s love.

Survivors include her children, Tamah Massey (Clyde), John Kube, and Kimberly Sorrell (Vincent); four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Robert Schluter and Maude Schluter Legg; and sister Whynona Easter. She was also preceded in death by a premature daughter, buried in 1961 who met her at the gates of heaven.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 22 with a reception to follow at Good Hope Baptist Church, 5601 Courthouse Rd Spotsylvania, VA 22551. Interment will be private.
