Joyce Wright Sisler

Joyce Wright Sisler, 94, passed away peacefully at her home on February, 6th, 2021.

She was a graduate of Falmouth High School, class of 1945. After high school she moved to Washington D.C. and worked for the government coming home on weekends to help out her family. Later, she worked for many years at The Magic Doorknob children’s shop and, after retiring, she volunteered at Mary Washington Hospital which she loved and made many new friends. Joyce remained close with her high school classmates and they continued to meet yearly for a reunion lunch and she was so proud of their long-standing friendships. She looked forward, every year, to their lunch at The General Store where they met for decades and were spoiled by owner Bill Kertsos. Joyce was a social butterfly and enjoyed maintaining her friendships, both new and old, and rarely a day went by where she did not call to catch up with at least one friend.

She was a devoted member of Fredericksburg Baptist Church and, despite not being able to physically go to church, remained close to her Sunday School Class, The Maria Scott Circle. Her classmates maintained a beautiful friendship in Christ with Joyce through weekly cards, lunch deliveries, and most recently a phone circle created to keep members connected despite separation due to the COVID Pandemic.

She married Dorsey Patton Sisler on May, 28th, 1949 and they enjoyed 52 beautiful years together before Dorsey passed in 2001.

She is survived by her daughter, Donna Sisler Ulman (Jerry); her granddaughter, Carrie, with whom she made her home; her grandson, Collin Ulman; and her brother, Ashton B. Wright, Jr. (Lucy). Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Louise and Ashton B. Wright, Sr.; and her husband, Dorsey P. Sisler.

A service will be held at Fredericksburg Baptist Church at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, February 10 for immediate family only. It will be live streamed at Fxbgbaptistchurch.org. Burial will be at Quantico National Cemetery at a later date.
