Joyce Lynn Verberg

Joyce “Lynn” Verberg passed away at home with her family by her side on October 9, 2021. 

Lynn was born on March 16, 1947, in Elkins WV to the late Doy Kirkpatrick and Betty Kirkpatrick (Richey). She lived most of her of her life in Williamsport, PA with her family and worked for Brodart as a Com Operator before moving to North Carolina where she held office managerial positions in Monroe and Hickory in the health care and financial services industries. In 2019, she retired to King George, VA to be closer to her children and grandchildren. 

Lynn loved spending time with her family near and far and making friends wherever she lived. She was a devoted wife and mother and was her grandchildren’s biggest cheerleader. Lynn was an avid walker despite her beloved dog Chewey slowing her down sometimes on their daily walks. After surviving breast cancer in 2017, Lynn had an amazing attitude and resilient mindset with her most recent short and painful battle with bone cancer. 

Survivors include her husband of 54 years, James Verberg; children Scott Verberg (Kelly) and Tanya Broyan (Michael); four grandchildren, Caitlyn, Colin, Kieran, and Meghan as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Lynn was preceded in death by her brother, Doy “Skip” Kirkpatrick II. 

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 14 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg, 4801 Jefferson Davis Highway, Fredericksburg, VA. A service will be held at Fredericksburg United Methodist Church, 308 Hanover Street, Fredericksburg, VA at 9:30 am on Friday, October 15. Interment will be held immediately following church services at Laurel Hill Memorial Park, 10127 Plank Road Spotsylvania, VA.
