Kenneth John Brewster, 85, of Partlow, VA, husband of Martha Brewster, passed away peacefully in Richmond, VA on Thursday, March 7, 2019, with his wife and sons by his side.
Ken was born in Pennsylvania and raised in upstate New York. After graduating high school in 1951 and graduating from Morrisville State College, Ken enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served honorably for 20 years. During his distinguished Air Force career, Ken was selected to serve in the prestigious United States Air Force Honor Guard where he routinely rendered honors to the President of the United States and world leaders. After leaving the Air Force Honor Guard, Ken served as an Air Force Security Policeman and Law Enforcement Professional. Upon his retirement in 1974, Ken continued his law enforcement career with the Smithsonian Institution, where he established the organization’s first ever K-9 program. In 1998, Ken became the first elected President of the newly established Air Force Honor Guard Association, where he was instrumental in building an organization that continues to serve members of Air Force Honor Guard to this day.
Family meant everything to Ken. He was a kind, adoring, and generous husband, father, and grandfather; as well as a loyal and trusted friend to many. Among his greatest joys, Ken enjoyed camping at Indian Acres of Thornburg and watching Redskins games with sons. He was a devoted member of the Riverside Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Brewster; their two children, son Robert and wife Judith of Sumerduck, VA, and son Kevin and wife Margaret of Front Royal, VA; his six grandchildren, April, Jessica, Jennifer, Kyle, Logan, and Katie; and his five great-grandchildren.
The world has lost a truly genuine soul and man of the highest integrity. He will be greatly missed.
