Mary Margaret "Madge" Horan

Mary Margaret, "Madge" Horan, 95, formerly of Woodford, VA passed away on Monday, September 30, 2019 at Conway Medical Center in South Carolina surrounded by family.

Mary was born and raised in Alexandria, VA and moved to Philadelphia, PA after marriage to late Francis Xavier Horan. She later returned to Alexandria, VA in the early 70’s.

Mary was devoted to working in her beautiful yard, trimming her azalea bushes and planting marigold flowers. She loved displaying her landscape figurines collection.  She enjoyed her rides to the Dollar Tree and Goodwill stores.  Her other passions were collecting many knick-knacks and sewing. She was a spiritual woman who will be deeply missed by friends, family and all who knew her.  She truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures, chatting with friends and family, and spending time with grand and great grandchildren.

Mary is survived by her three beautiful daughters Barbara Ann Horan, Brenda Lee Newcomb, and Rosemary (James) Watters who were the most important part of her life.  She lived for her girls. She was blessed with many grandchildren Kenneth James Disse Jr., Constant Ponnet Disse III, Renee Lanette (Disse) Bartley, Jessica Rose (Disse) Black, Alicia Michelle Disse, Jason Randolph Beer, Jeneen Marie (Beer) Harris, Ryan Lee Newcomb, Megan Lynn Newcomb and 19 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Franklin and Margaret Roat and brothers Frank E. Roat, George M. Roat, Andrew J. Roat and half brother Albert A. Sweeney.

A graveside service is scheduled for 10 am on October 12 at Oak Hill Cemetery, 1902 Plank Road, Fredericksburg, VA 22401.  Elder Randy C. Beer will conduct the eulogy and tribute of Mary Margaret Horan.  A Celebration of Life will be held afterwards at Jessica Black’s house.
