Mary Alice Markol

Mary Alice Markol, “Mom,” 91, passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2022 after a long illness. She is rejoined in Heaven with her beloved husband of 64 years, Donald Markol, who passed away in 2016; and dear son Jeff Markol, who passed away in 2020.

Mom grew up in a big family in Philadelphia that included many cousins, a younger brother, Buddy, and sister, Peggie Ellen, who pre-deceased her. As a young schoolteacher, Mary Alice met Don in the late 1940’s at the Bessie Hicks School for Dramatic Arts and they were married in 1951. Mom was a proud homemaker and later dabbled in advertising once the boys were grown. She always said that raising three boys wasn't really that hard; they listened, did what they were told, and stayed out of trouble. Those boys did so in large part to the guidance they received from Mom and Dad.

After raising her family in the Bucks County, PA town of Feasterville, Mary Alice and Don retired to The Villages in Florida and enjoyed 20+ years in the retirement sun. As they got up in years, they moved to Fredericksburg, VA to be closer to their son, Jamie, and his family. After Don’s death, Mary Alice kept busy participating in a nearby senior’s club and attended church every Sunday at St. Mary Catholic Church until her illness got the better of her.

She is survived by her sons, Drew Markol and Jamie Markol (Donna); nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren with one more on the way.

She will be missed by all and never forgotten. Rest in peace Mom. We will love you always. Burial arrangements will be private.
