Mary Cam Finley

Mary Cam, a Fredericksburg resident since 1983, died on Friday, November 25, 2022. She had suffered a stroke a number of years ago and moved to Hughes Home in 2018.  

She earned her B.A. at Longwood University in Elementary Education. Mary Cam was a lifelong educator and taught in the public school systems of Amherst and Bedford counties prior to moving to Fredericksburg. She last taught at Hugh Mercer Elementary School in Fredericksburg for 18 years as a Kindergarten Teacher. She retired from teaching in 2002. Mary Cam loved her students but was also strict with them. 

When living in Bedford, Mary Cam was active in the Junior Women’s Club. She loved playing Bridge and was asked to teach other teachers in the Fredericksburg school system how to play. She continued to play Bridge until the last years of her life.

Her favorite place was her and her husband’s cottage on the Potomac that her parents had owned for years. She loved her dogs, enjoyed cooking and reading.

She is survived by her friends, Jeanne and Jim Vaught, Sandy Pickett, and Audrey Fields of Fredericksburg.

Mary Cam was predeceased by her husband, Chris, to whom she was married for over 50 years.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, December 2, 2022 at Oak Hill Cemetery.
