Mary Cary Kendall, 92, died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, December 4, 2022 at her home in Stafford County.
Mary Cary was born on July 10, 1930. A retired educator, she received her Master’s Degree at the University of Virginia. She was a member of St. William of York Catholic Church in Stafford and had a strong relationship with Aquia Episcopal Church. She was a longstanding member of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America and a lifetime member of Stafford County Historical Society, through which she represented Widewater on the Historical Commission as a valued resource of the county’s history.
Survivors include her nieces, Kay Kendall Howie (Benton) of Ocean Springs, MS and Rosa Sinnott (Bob) of Pacific Palisades, CA; nephew D. John Kendall III (AnnHall) of Fredericksburg, VA; and seven great nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Col. and Mrs. Donald J. Kendall of Stafford; brother and sister-in-law Lt. Col. Donald J. and Lillian G. Kendall, Jr. of Rumford Farm in Fredericksburg; nieces Anne Kendall Crigler (Waugh) of Charlottesville and Cary Kendall Mitchener of Roanoke; and great-nephew Jim Michener.
The Kendall family is very thankful for Mary Cary’s devoted friends, and her caregivers, especially David and Lisa Gibson of Stafford.
A Mass of Celebration will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 9, 2022, at St. William of York Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Aquia Episcopal Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Mary Cary would have appreciated donations in her memory to Aquia Episcopal Church.
