Morris Lynn “Morrie” Mabbitt

July 22, 1944 ~ July 15, 2022 (age 77)


Morris Lynn “Morrie” Mabbitt, 77, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, July 15, 2022. Morrie was born on July 22, 1944 in Ames, Iowa; and has been a resident of Fredericksburg the last 45 years.

Morrie had a long and successful career with the EPA, retiring in 1999 as a Branch Chief in the Office of Water. He was the recipient of multiple commendable service awards from the United States Environmental Protection Agency, including his Distinguished Career Award for dedicated and distinguished service to the American People in protecting human health and the environment.

He loved playing golf and was quite proud of his three holes-in-one! Other hobbies included his beautiful flower gardens, working on his family ancestry, and supporting his volunteer efforts. Morrie was very active with his volunteer work and his support for Christ Lutheran Church. He was passionate and a tireless selfless volunteer in serving others, including working with the food bank, providing meals and clothing for those experiencing homelessness, and supporting the women’s shelter. Morrie was a loving and kind person admired and loved by all those who knew him.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Beverly Mabbitt; daughter Tracy Mabbitt-Boone (Mark); step-daughter Michelle Spetnagle (Ward); three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; sister Mary Pennino; brother Bruce Mabbitt (Janet); mother-in-law Rita Morin; and a nephew and several nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Irene Mabbitt, also of Fredericksburg.

The family will receive friends on Friday, July 29, 2022 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. A service will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at 2 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg, with reception following in the Church Fellowship Hall. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ Lutheran Church (1300 Augustine Ave., Fredericksburg VA 22401) or the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Richmond Chapter (4600 Cox Road, Suite 130, Glen Allen VA 23060).
